On the First of May in 1980, the eldest in a family of three was born in Welandura, Kahawatte in the District of Ratnapura in Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa Province. The Baby Girl was named “Walpola Kankanamalage Amila Nadeeshani Jayasundara”. Here begins the story of that little girl who later became popular as “Amila Nadeeshani”.
Amila who has two younger brothers began her primary education at Kiriella Central and later moved to Ferguson High in Ratnapura. She excelled in athletics but was little known during her early schooling years for singing abilities. Amila first started singing in the Seventh Grade and the same year she went on stage for the “very first time”
Her athletic abilities out-shadowed singing skills when she brought home the All-island Silver for 800 meters running event in the Under-19 age group. This was the crowning moment in her school athletic career which also gave her the Silver and Gold in the Provincial 1500 meters running event in two different years.
Amila’s singing abilities, nonetheless, were also recognized later at school and provincial levels when she won a few contests. A beautiful new chapter in her life turned at the
young age of nineteen when her sweetheart “Samantha” decided to take her hand. This partnership propelled her towards stardom in less than ten years. Her professional
singing career commenced in Year 2000, one year prior to the birth of their loving son “Bithum”.
Over the years, before becoming a Super Star, Amila earned the third place at Thurunu Shakthi and won the Swarnabhimani Contest. The second major turning-point in her career besides becoming a musician’s wife in 1999 was winning the Third Place at the last “Sirasa Super Star Contest.”
Getting in to the top three at this contest made her well known around the country and took her to numerous destinations across the seas. Maharaja Entertainment recently released her first album and it will be made available to her fans soon through this Official Web Site of the star as well.
Amila Nadeeshani loves sports, watching movies, taking strolls at leisure and to re-arrange the lay-outs of rooms at home from time to time. She adores “Veli Thalapa” and
yearns to visit Nuwara Eliya as often as possible. In fact, her first video clip is currently being made in that part of the island. Yet, she loves to live in Colombo suburbs and
treats Kurunegala, her father’s hometown, as the city closest to her heart.
This new Star in the Sri Lankan Music Arena plans to reach-out to her fans spread across the continents through her Official Web Site. Amila Nadeeshani sincerely thanks each one of you who contributed towards her Story of Success !
